N(6)-methyladenosine (m6A) DNA is present at a relatively high level at the very earliest embryonic stages but at low levels at the late embryonic stages and may act as a regulator of gene expression . Promotes differentiation of early germ cells in ovary . Contributes to neuronal morphology, development, and function in the brain . By interacting with histone modifier wds, binds to a specific set of genes, modulates intragenic (N(6)-methyladenosine) DNA levels and thereby maintains transcriptional activation . Also able to catalyze the conversion of the modified genomic base 5-methylcytosine (5mC) into 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) . .
